Is efficiency a value, or a means to an end?

February 7, 2012

This past Sunday our Associate Pastor, Mike Yurkovich, preached a great sermon entitled “Is God Inefficient?”  He looks at the earthly ministry of Jesus as portrayed in the Gospels (using Mark 3:14-15, the calling of the disciples, as a starting point) and examines whether or not Jesus valued the things that the Western world, especially America, values most highly in the work place:

1. Most Qualified Workers

2. Highest Productivity

3. Shortest Amount of Time

It was a refreshingly freeing sermon to hear.  I think anyone who is American would benefit from listening to this sermon.  It challenged me re-prioritize the ways in which I work, teach, and live in community.

Peter F. Drucker said, “Efficiency is doing things right, effectiveness is doing the right thing.”  What is the right thing?  In this sermon, Pastor Mike shares what Jesus practiced as the right thing.
