What Liam Has Taught Me About God, Part 1: He made us to smile at beautiful things

When I held up one of my Valentine’s Day roses to my son, at first he looked interested and puzzled, but then he got a big smile on his face. I don’t think he smiled simply because he caught on to our excitement.  We didn’t have to teach him to appreciate nice smells.  We already smile at him a lot and he typically just gives blank, though cute, stares.  But the rose was different, and it happened on two occasions- fortunately we caught the second on camera. He was made to smile for such a pleasant thing. Later Matt and I found out that we were thinking the same thought:  There has to be a Creator.  Of course, the fact that he smiled isn’t 100% proof, so don’t jump on me Richard Dawkins.  But for that unmistakable gut feeling that there is another, Higher Influence on our son besides us?  Wow.
